Every Mark Counts
One afternoon in 1973, the painter Francis Sprout talked with me about Frank Stella’s shaped paintings, introducing me to the idea that a painting was a physical object as well as an image. When I “got” what he was talking about, my passion for painting crystalized into a vocation.
In time “painting-objects” led to “object-spaces” and then to “virtual objects,” but I did start in painting, and as Francis would say, every mark counts. This page gives a glimpse of some of the marks I made that relate, in some way, to my current work.
